Meet the Blue Turtle

Hello!

We’re Andy and Amy, and we’ve recently taken the leap into an exciting new adventure!

In the fall of 2014 we bought a little 1985 Class C motorhome, which we dubbed “The Turtle.” (We carry our home around with us, and also we kind of travel as slowly as a turtle.) 🙂

Throughout the following year, the Turtle was gutted, restored, and painted blue, and in November of 2015 we moved out of our house in Portland, Oregon and into a new little home with unlimited potential! Already we’ve been having the time of our lives and can hardly believe it’s really happening.

The vandwelling lifestyle suits us perfectly, and our dog Scout and cat Gracie certainly agree! The four of us spend nearly all our time outside now, swimming in lakes and fishing in rivers, and eating meals at picnic tables.

We’ve been learning so much as we go, and love to share our experiences and acquired knowledge with anyone who may be considering taking the plunge into full-time RVing. If you’re working toward this lifestyle and could use some tips, we’ll be posting sections describing how we went about renovating the Turtle. You may choose to do things differently, of course, but hopefully our research will help save you some time and give you some things to think about while you make the decision that works best for you.

If you’re simply interested in seeing what National Parks we explore first (we’re aiming to see them all!), tales from of all corners of the US (and eventually South America), and most importantly, lots of photos of Scout and Gracie (obviously), then we’d love to have you join us!

  2. Greetings A & A, we had a fantastic time with you when you visited Portales. I will be following your adventures. We so appreciated the insight of life on the road that you shared with us. I would like to share a blog with you since you expressed interest in the Blackwater Draw site. “PaleoTool” blog. The guy who owns the blog is an archeologist at Blackwater but writes extensively about living simply and building vardos among the many topics that he is versed in. Best wishes, David and Robyn

We’ve got the Roosevelt one in the brewery book now and we love it. Talk soon! – Amy and Andy
